Preparing for the tour
For most tours, we recommend bringing one suitcase or piece of luggage per person. However, for tours like “Hiking Albanian Alps in 4 Days,” a backpack is more suitable, as suitcases can be difficult to transport during mountain hikes.
Flights are not included and will need to be booked separately. Airport transfers are also not included in the tour price but can be arranged upon request for an additional fee.
Your packing should depend on the season. In spring and autumn, we recommend bringing a raincoat and a warm sweater. Even in summer, it’s a good idea to pack an extra sweater for the evenings. Summer temperatures can be very hot in our region, so light clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent are essential. Regardless of the season, comfortable sneakers are highly recommended, as the terrain can be slippery, and many streets are made of cobblestones.
Credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are widely accepted in tourist areas throughout Albania and the region. However, as we visit off-the-beaten-path locations, some local businesses may not accept cards. We recommend bringing Euros and exchanging them for the local currency. If you need to withdraw cash from local ATMs, please note that there is an international transaction fee of approximately 7 Euros per withdrawal.
Your local tour guide will meet you in the hotel lobby on the first day of the trip. Please provide your accommodation details after booking to ensure a smooth meeting point.
Our tours are designed for small groups of up to 16 people. We use comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles such as the VW Touran, Mercedes Viano, or Mercedes Sprinter. You will have your own dedicated seat with ample space for luggage. For some tours, a ferry or boat ride may also be included, and we will inform you in advance if that’s the case.
Safety and insurance
We do not offer travel insurance, and it is not mandatory for our tours. We recommend checking with your personal insurance provider to ensure coverage, especially for travel in countries outside the EU zone.
Yes, our tours are open to everyone. However, we recommend reviewing the fitness level requirements for each tour. Each itinerary provides details on walking distances to help you assess if the tour is suitable for you.
All our tours are safe for everyone. Each tour includes recommended age guidelines for participants. Solo travelers will be paired with a fellow guest of the same gender for accommodations, or they can opt to book a private room for added comfort and privacy. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to join a tour.
While our region is generally safe, we always recommend exercising caution in busy tourist areas. When shopping, be sure to check prices or ask in advance to avoid misunderstandings with vendors. If you’re walking alone in the evening, stick to well-lit main roads and avoid secondary streets. If you choose to take a taxi back to your hotel, be clear about the hotel name or show the hotel card to the driver for added security.
Unfortunately, we do not offer visa services. We recommend checking with your local embassy or consulate for visa requirements and assistance.
Communication and Support
Most bars, restaurants, and hotels in the region offer free Wi-Fi for their guests. However, there is no Wi-Fi available on the bus during the tour. Please note that EU mobile data may not work in Balkan countries, and using it can be quite costly, so we recommend avoiding it.
We do not provide SIM cards, but our tour guides can assist you in purchasing a local tourist package if you need constant internet access during the tour.
For emergencies, you can reach us at the number +355 682616164 during office hours. For any urgent matters during the tour, please first contact your tour guide. If needed, you can also call our emergency number.
Accommodation & Food
For our multi-day tours, accommodation is typically in standard 3-4* hotels, with occasional stays in guesthouses in rural areas. We ensure all accommodations are clean, comfortable, and serve a good breakfast. Additionally, we prioritize locations that are close to tourist attractions for your convenience.
We are unable to provide a list of specific hotels before booking the tour. However, once your booking is confirmed, we will send you the details of the accommodations and keep you updated with any reservations.
The food in the Balkan region is a delightful fusion of Turkish and Italian influences, with a focus on Mediterranean herbs and olive oil. Spicy food is not commonly found in the area. Please be sure to communicate any dietary restrictions to your guide or waitstaff in advance, as vegan products may not be widely available in local supermarkets.
Tap water is not always safe to drink. In Albania, the tap water is not potable, so we recommend purchasing bottled water from supermarkets. In other countries within the region, tap water may be safe to drink, but it’s always best to check with the hotel receptionist to be sure.
Local Culture and Customs
Tipping is common in bars and restaurants across the region. While there is no fixed amount, it’s generally between 10-15%, depending on your satisfaction with the service. We also recommend, though it’s not required, tipping your tour guides and drivers as a token of appreciation for their services.
In Albania and Kosovo, the primary language spoken is Albanian (Shqip). In other countries such as Bosnia, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia, a variation of South Slavic languages is spoken. Many young people in the region speak English, though in Serbia and some areas of North Macedonia, the Cyrillic alphabet is used.
Photography is allowed in most public areas throughout the region. However, flash photography is not permitted inside certain museums. Drones are commonly used in outdoor areas, but always check for specific regulations or restrictions.
We recommend purchasing locally made souvenirs to support the local economy. Ask your guide for suggestions on authentic products made by local artisans. Be sure to check the contents of any products before purchasing to ensure they comply with airline regulations for transport.
